The months of anticipation have come to an end for D.J.. He was so excited to finally be baptized on Saturday. He has been preparing for months by reading the scriptures, learning why he should be baptized and practicing choosing the right. Trevor and I really wanted D.J. to make the decision to be baptized or not on his own. So we have tried to teach D.J. about baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost often this year. It has been the topic of Family Home Evening at least once a month since January and Trevor has been very diligent in reading the Book of Mormon with him and answering all of his questions. When he turned 8 years old he told us he wanted to be baptized. I know that he understands the covenants he made with his Heavenly Father and that he realizes what a special gift he received when he was confirmed. I am so proud of D.J. and the amazing young man his is becoming. He isn't only my son, he is one of my best friends. I love you D.J.!
I wanted to give D.J. a special gift that would help him remember his baptism day so I decided to make him a quilt. Luckily I have an amazing Mom and Aunt Becky that made my idea come to life. When I gave it to him I told him that this quilt will bring him comfort and warmth just like the Holy Ghost will throughout his life. He LOVED it! His favorite part was the block in the middle that had his name and baptism date on it. He also liked the dinosaur fossil fabric I snuck in quilt because he loves dinosaurs. When I put him to bed on Saturday I asked him what his favorite part of the day was and he said, "being baptized and getting the blanket you made me." He then asked me if I really made it, he knows me so well. I had to admit that Grandma and Aunt Becky did most of it, well, almost all of it, but that I picked out the fabric, helped put the blocks together, and was there watching the whole time they were sewing. He was happy with that. :)
